Also known as Ashiatsu, (Ashi means “foot” and atsu means “pressure”) is a massage technique that dates back as far as the 12th century. Massaging the body with the feet is a bodywork used throughout India, Japan, China, Thailand, Africa and the Philippines. I recommend this unique experience and massage technique. In today’s more Americanized version of Barefoot Ashiatsu, I use an overhead system of hand-held bars for balance. My feet will apply deep compression and long flowing broad strokes to encourage muscle release and pain relief in chronically tight muscle tissue, while bringing a state of deep relaxation. This specific deep pressure work is performed with soothing strokes that are applied to the body using hand and foot pressure that melt the muscles and reduce stress. Extra pressure can be applied for a deeper than regular massage, without any pain or discomfort.
